MUME (October 2020) |
For this edition MUME invited the Mexican-based Cuban curator Roselin Rodriguez to present a project in a Truck parked in 2nd district of Vienna-City. "New Popular Baroque": We migrate from Mexico to Vienna a set of art objects, images and texts that have operated within the alternative economies. Against the imperial Viennese baroque, we bring a popular Latin American baroque of itinerant, informal, pirate economies, made in China, Taiwan and Tepito. Resonating in these artistic practices is the recent proposal by Argentine theorist Veronica Gago of a neoliberalism that comes from below and appropriates, replicates, alters and relaunches macroeconomic accounts, as a culture of resistance. This "New Popular Baroque" produces an art deviated from material poetics and residual culture.TEXT: SPA / ENG / GER |
